School-Based Speech Pathology Screening
Kindergarten to Year 1 Screening Assessment Program
- Information and Permission Form -
Helena College Junior School is pleased to offer a speech screening and assessment service provided by Kids Club Pathology. The screening is offered to all Kindergarten students and new students to Helena College in Pre-Primary and Year 1. Speech pathology screening in Kindergarten to Year 1 is highly recommended to identify children at risk of developmental delay at this critical age.
With your permission, your child will be seen for a brief speech / language assessment soon after commencement, on campus and within school hours, and is paid for by the College.
The screening will include a brief evaluation of your child’s receptive language skills (answering questions, following instructions), semantics, listening skills, expressive language skills (narrative, grammar, social language) as well as their production of speech sounds, fluency and voice.
This process provides parents and staff with an insight into any areas of speech and / or language development which may need to be monitored; as well as providing the class teacher with more detailed information to assist individual programming in language and pre-literacy lessons at school. It also allows for recommendations for further Speech Pathology intervention where indicated, with a therapist / at a clinic of your choice.
The screening will take place during the first semester of 2025. Closer to the designated screening date, a detailed Parent/Carer Questionnaire and Consent Form will be provided to you (from Kids Club Pathology) for completion and return to your child’s teacher.
If you are in agreement, please complete the below consent.
